Some People Collect Stamps. We Collect Roads — A Patagonia Road Trip Series

This is the first post in a series documenting a five-week road trip through Patagonia — Santiago to Ushuaia, the southernmost city on earth. Two people, one hire car (then a ute), and 6,329 kilometres. If you’re new here, this is the place to start.

It started modestly enough — Israel and Jordan, then Europe, then the USA. Each trip a little further from comfortable, a little deeper into the unknown. Then Siberia’s Road of Bones. Then Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Then Peru and Bolivia, where Daryl drove the Death Road and Janine shook in the back seat.

Each book on the shelf represents a road taken, a country understood a little better through its food, its people, and its driving conditions.

This is book six. Patagonia. Santiago to Ushuaia — the southernmost city on earth. Five weeks, two vehicles, twenty-nine switchbacks, and one extraordinary cooking lesson.

The roads keep getting longer. We’re not complaining.
